FIRE! March 6, 2021
In the early morning of March 6, 2021, the Glenburn fire station burnt down. By the time neighboring agencies arrived and we extinguished the fire, the building and contents had been largely destroyed. In addition to the building, we lost our: Fire Engine, Tanker, Command Vehicle, three Grass/Brush Trucks, and our Light Rescue Truck. Most of the equipment on these vehicles suffered severe fire, heat and smoke damage. Additionally, all of the Structural (Bunker) Gear and our Wildland Gear was destroyed. Overall, the vast majority of our trucks, equipment and protective gear needed replacing.
We have currently received numerous donations, and have been lent equipment to help us get operating again. We were working out of a borrowed building and looking forward to the completion of a new fire hall. That fire hall was completed early in 2023, just over 2 years since the fire, and we are now operating out of it. The Grand Opening of the department is April 21, 2023.
From the time of the fire, the firefighters and community have been rallying to get the department 100% operational again. Through insurance, numerous donations of money, vehicles, equipment and more, along with the numerous hours people have dedicated to the department, we are functioning again… but still working to come back.
